The Coats Parks and Recreation Department has recently completed a series of updates to the playground at Coats Park, ensuring the space is clean, safe, and ready for increased use as spring approaches.
As part of this refresh, park staff installed 18 yards of new playground mulch, providing a safer and more resilient surface for children at play. Fresh mulch not only improves the appearance of the playground but also plays a critical role in fall protection, drainage, and overall playground safety.
In addition to the mulching, the playground equipment itself received a thorough cleaning. Over time, outdoor structures naturally accumulate lichen and mildew due to weather exposure. Parks staff removed this buildup from the play structures, restoring a cleaner, brighter appearance and helping extend the lifespan of the equipment. The result is a more welcoming and well-maintained space for families to enjoy.
These improvements were completed in preparation for the spring baseball and softball season, when park usage traditionally increases and the playground sees higher daily traffic from families and visitors. Proactive maintenance like this helps ensure Coats Park remains a safe, attractive, and enjoyable destination for the community.
The Parks and Recreation Department will continue to focus on routine maintenance and facility improvements throughout the park as the seasons change. Residents are encouraged to visit the playground and see the updates firsthand.
