The Town of Coats provides weekly curbside yard and leaf waste collection for residential solid waste customers.
What is Collected
- Leaves, grass clippings, pine straw, pine cones
- Twigs, shrubs, hedge trimmings
- Tree limbs up to 5 feet long and 6 inches in diameter
Collection Guidelines
- Place yard waste in loose piles at the curb (not in bags). Leaves and grass must be free of sticks, rocks, or debris for vacuum pickup.
- Piles must be placed by 7:00 a.m. Monday morning.
- Yard waste must be kept separate from trash and household items.
- Piles should be parallel to the street, not intertwined, and at least 3 feet away from trash containers, mailboxes, and utility poles.
Quantity Limits
- The Town will collect up to two piles per property per week.
- Each pile may not exceed 4 feet wide x 4 feet deep x 4 feet tall.
- Limbs may not exceed 5 feet long and 6 inches in diameter.
Special Collection Notes
- Leaf Season: Rake leaves to the curb (behind the curb line, not into the street or ditch).
- Christmas Tree Pickup: Place undecorated trees curbside (behind the curb line). All tinsel, wires, nails, and non-vegetative materials must be removed.
- Storm Clean-Ups: The Town Manager may authorize collection outside standard limits if needed for public safety.
Restrictions
- Yard waste generated by landscaping or tree service contractors must be removed by the service provider, the Town will not collect it.
- No burning of yard or leaf waste within Town limits (except with a state-issued burning permit for land clearing).
Non-Compliance
- Non-compliant piles or contaminated waste (mixed with trash, bags, or inorganic material) will not be collected.
- Waste not removed within 10 days after notice may be considered a nuisance. If deemed hazardous, it must be removed within 24 hours.
